An algorithm by definition are steps taken to solve a problem in a limited number of steps. an example of this would be how to carve a pumpkin.
1. Drive to the store and pick out the pumpkin of your choice.
2. Bring it back to to where you will be carving it and get a large sharp knife, a smaller somewhat dull knife, a pencile, some newspaper, and a spoon.
3. Now you are ready to start. Layout some newspaper and set your pumpkin on it. Begin by cutting a hole in the top of your pumpkin large enough for your hand to fit in. Make sure you cut the hole so that it slants inward. This will make it possible for you to replace the top when you are done.
4. Now you will need to reach into the pumpkin and scoop out all the seeds and mush thats in it before you start cutting out the face. Use your hands to get the loose areas, and then use your dull knife and spoon to scoop out the rest. You can set all the seeds and mush on your newspaper.
5. Once you have cleaned out the inside of your pumpkin, take your pencil and draw the face you would like your pumpkin to have. The most common pumpkin face is two triangle eyes, a triangle nose, and a smile which contains a few teeth.
6. Now we are ready to cut out the face. Begin with the eyes and insert the sharp knife all the way through the front side of the pumpkin. Then just follow the lines you drew with the kinfe. Make sure the object it completely cut out before you remove it from the pumpkin. Push the piece you have cut out into the pumpkin, then reach in through the hole in the top and pull it out.
7. Repeat step 6 for the other eye, the nose, and the mouth. Then you will have a prefectly carved pumpkin. =)
