Twitters are

…a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows it’s users to send and read other users updates which are text-based post of up to 140 characters about what they are doing…

 I believe that twitters are not an invasion of privacy because you choose what you post for others to see. If you don’t want people to know what you are doing at the moment they don’t have too. It is completly up to you what people see so it is not like a GPS tracking device of your every move.

It can be very helpful, I think, to see what others, that you share common intrest with, are doing. Say you want to find information on a certain subject, or where you can get tickets for the concert that is coming to town. Well instead of looking at the whole internet for hours, you could just go look at a few of your friends twitters, and you might find that they have already found the same information you are looking for. This will save you a ton of time and stress because instead of spending hours looking for it you can just ask them where they found it. It is very helpful in a job because if you are working on a project you could require everyone to post their progress on a twitter so everyone in the group can see how the different pieces are coming along and if tehy are getting done at all. I do find a small value in this tool which would ahve to be that it saves you a little time and effort, and it could spark new intrest for you.

Some common Twitters you might know or and use are Twitterific or Facebook.

Check out this video. It’s called the TWITTER SONG. It’s pretty interesting!!!

  1. Yea its not a GPS tracking your every move but it can track where you are at and not what you are doing (unless you decide to post what you are up to). that is very interesting. Now parents can track where their kids are really at and not where they are saying they are at.
    My wife was looking for the Twitter application for her iPhone and came across Twitterrific. Which seems to be another part of Twitter, you use your same log-in information from your Twitter account. You are also able to take a picture and put it in with your post all from your phone.

  2. ok now this is something i didnt know, so twitter can be used as a tracking device if someone wanted it to?? i think i might have to do a little 007 lol j/k. but if someone mght be able to track where an employee is taking the company truck for lunch. i could deffinatly see this aspect of twitter being useful.

  3. I agree…people are only going to read and see what you want them too. It’s the same with any other Web 2.0 service in that regard. Is anybody else about to get this Gustav wind and rain like me? 8-{

  4. i like your idea on how it can be used differently, i guess if you do put thought into it any of these new technologies can be of great use some way or the other. would be a great tool for freelancers, especially if you can’t be online or on your computer all the time and you want feedback form more than one person at a time, or can’t call someone on the phone right away.
